Hemingway and the Lion February 29, 2012

There was a photo where you could see a man who all alone had killed an immense lion. The viewers were impressed.
A lion happened to pass by. He was skeptical and explained: “What fantasy! If the photographer had been a lion, you’d see a very different picture.”
The photo signed by Hemingway is from

Everybody recognizes that Hemingway was a great writer, one of the greatest. He made the language his own.
.
However
it is a pity that his philosophy or his world view was not quite up to snuff. It was what could be called a flat world view.
And yet probably his achievement is of the lasting kind. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

The fable, by Aesop or La Fontaine, is not about a photographer, but about a painter and a lion who saw the painting.
.

In un quadro era dipinto
un Leon enorme e forte,
preso e vinto
da un sol uomo e messo a morte.
Glorïavasi la gente
nel vedere un tanto ardire,
ma un Leon ch’era presente
prese a dire:
- Fantasia!
Tutto mio questo valore
io scommetto che saria,
se un Leon fosse il pittore -.

Apparently cats like these, with very many claws, are called Hemingway cats..

I visited his home in Key West. Tiny writing table and 6 toed cats, salt water pool.
