would you put it so simply that plato created the notion that the world is run by ideas?

Answer April 24, 2009 [Edit]
John Maynard Keynes wrote that ideas, “both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else.”
(From the NYT)
“Aristotle could have avoided the mistake of thinking that women have fewer teeth than men, by the simple device of asking Mrs. Aristotle to keep her mouth open while he counted.” — B. Russell
I think it was A.N. Whitehead who once said that Western philosophy is all based on Plato and on those dialogues where Socrates examines the ideas and concepts that his friends take for granted.
Do you think they were better than today’s philosophers, or have they simply got more exposure.
Not better. Just fewer. Now they are a dime a dozen.
of course they were better, they laid out the frame work for everyone else.. these philosophers are not like other philosophers, other philosophers are like them. if they were not there to influence philosophy in the way they did we would have completely different theories now.
hey socrates was cool
i am doing a project on Greek philosophy
they started the world of science thats awsome
